Antique OOAK Hand Carved Springerle Cookie Board Mold; Merry Christmas.
What a wonderful one-of-a-kind springerle mold this is!
It is definitely hand made as evidenced by the maker’s initials, G A, carved into the bottom of the cross image in the upper right hand corner. Another surprise is the words MERRY XMAS
incised above and below the wreath image in the panel in the lower right hand corner. Other images include a pumpkin, snowflake, bough and another image I can’t name. Measuring
7 1/2 by 3 3/4 by almost 7/8 inches, it is in very nice condition, no cupping, splits or cracks. The upper right corner on the back looks to be ‘sanded’ down - it may have always been that way. Actually the board is made from two pieces of wood joined together. Not sure of the type of wood but it seems heavy for its size. This board is a really unique example and a great addition to a springerle mold collection or as an interesting addition to your country primitive display.
