    Description

Antique Victorian Brooch Sash Pin Stamped Brass Double Leaf C Clasp
In the late Victorian and early Edwardian eras, large sash pins/brooches, often resembling buckles were a popular item of wear. Fashionable women would copy Queen Victoria's style by wearing a sash from over their shoulder to their hip. Sash pins were used to fasten the sash at the hip. Common characteristics include thick pin stems in order to pass through several layers of fabric, and simple "C" clasps. This particular brooch looks a bit like a buckle. It is symmetrical, with a leaf at each side. At the center is a small knot, or bouquet, of flowers. The piece is of stamped brass, the leaves and flowers at the center applied to two ovals of brass.
Measures 3-1/2" long by 1" wide.
The condition is very good. There is, of course, an age patina. The C Clasp works. The pin stem is bent, as is typical of this type of brooch.
