    Description

    Victorian Hand-Painted Porcelain Oval Floral Brooch set in a plated silver tone bezel surrounded by twisted rope chain metal that sits on a decorative base.
    Age: c. 1890 - 1901
    When viewed under magnification it is clear that the flowers are hand-painted and not merely transfers or decals.
    This beautiful brooch is fastened with a c-clasp that has a spring type feature (see photos) to create some tension to ensure that it will stay on the garment.
    MARKINGS: no maker/markings found on piece.
    MEASUREMENTS: 2 1/4” wide x 1 1/8” tall at tallest point.
    CONDITION: preowned and antique. Has some minor loss of plating around edges between twisted rope and bezel and a few spots here and there in platform ledge surrounding the bezel. Interior of bezel also shows some minor loss of plating. However, visually it doesn’t detract from the beauty of this piece in my opinion. No loss of paint on porcelain when viewed under magnification. The spring action on clasp is very good and not loose.
