In December 1939, by order of Roman Sushko, a special distinction of the Military Units of the Nationalists was introduced, which looked like a curved bronze shield in the shape of a circle, about 43 mm in diameter, with a trident in the center with a sword and the inscription "Glory to Ukraine" around. On the back of the shield were embossed the letters "BBN", the ordinal number and year of the award.
