FS EDWARDIAN BRASS REPOUSSE CHATELAINE BROOCH w JADEITE Glass SNUFF HOLDERS

*****DESCRIPTION: OLD, Victorian or Edwardian Brooch, in Classic GREEK REVIVAL Theme, with SHELLS in Raised Relief, Scrolls, and 3 JADITE or Faux Jade Stones. The large oval one has a realistic relief texturing, mimicing real jade. The 3 small teardrops have subtle texturing. All have realistic mottling. The really distinctive characteristic about this old brooch is the pair of HINGED and ETCHED METAL CUBES that open so one could access SNUFF and/or Perfume/SMELLING SALTS or other tiny articles. In one is a wad of cotton that probably had been saturated with smelling salts or perfume. These are not marked, but look like they were Silver Plated. I did not have them tested. Note! This cube has a white residue inside on the metal, probably a corrosion from ammonia or alcohol in smelling salts or perfumes.
SIZE: Brooch is approx 2 3/8" across and 2 5/8" long. Each CUBE is 3/8" each side.
CONDITION: Fabulous condition for age. Bend in pinback. Most mild of patina, tarnish to the silver plated? cubes. White corrosion inside one. One of the small teardrop jadites may have a chip near the top, or made that way. These old, Hide-away Chatelains are so difficult to find, this one will be wonderful to wear, and it will be an excellent addition to your antique jewelry collection.
