The Story of Ly Tu Trong. He was born to a family who traveled to Thailand to escape persecution by the imperialists. His mother was pregnant and he was born there. He is one of seven young supporters that were sent to China to learn under Ho Chi Minh (Bac Ho) and lived there from 1925 - 1927. (from the age of 11 to 13).
In 1931 he joined the revolutionary group and was celebrating the anniversary of the Yen Bai uprising when he took up arms against the French on the 9th of February 1931 shooting at Secret Police. French colonialists arrested him.
He stated in court,
"I was not born to be ruled"
.
Hi lawyer defended him, saying he had not reached the age of majority and acted without thought.
He interjected,
"I am a fully grown adult and am smart enough to understand what I was doing. Anyway, the youth's path can be only of revolution, there is no other way"
.
He was sentenced to death and was executed towards the end of 1931. He was 17 Years old.
Rare - Hand Made Revolutionary Poster
This is an exceptionally rare, 1960's hand made poster, it is not laminated but covered in plastic, previous pin-holes show where it has been hung. It measures 19.5 x 15 inches. It will be sent in a protective roll to preserve this wonderful art piece.
Made to be hung in secret revolutionary homes, barracks and tunnel complexes in the South, it was discovered in Bien Hoa at the home of old Female NLF Fighter. (Bien Hoa is North of Saigon and Cu Chi).
I have done the best I can with the above translation from the original document. I am sure many can do much better. Ly Tu Trong was born in Thailand on the 20th of October 1914 to parents escaping persecution from the French. He is today in Vietnam considered a Revolutionary Martyr. Streets and parks in Saigon are named after him and statues are made of him.
Protecting a more senior revolutionary he shot at French Secret Police at a rally at Le Grand Park on the 9th of February 1931. He was arrested near Can Tho ten days later. He was executed on the 20th of November 1931.
In 2010 his remains were identified buried in Saigon's (HCMC) District 10. They were exhumed and he was reburied at his parents hometown on the North Central Coast of Vietnam.
This piece is part of a small collection (8 different pieces) that were all made in the 1960's by the same person (Nguyen Thi Phan). I will list the others over the coming weeks when I have time to translate them. There is only one of each Revolutionary.
