    DESCRIPTION:
    Pinchbeck
    is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, mixed in proportions so that it closely resembles gold in appearance, they tried to make gold through alchemy in the 1600's and then fell from favor in the mid 1800's. Worn commonly in the Victorian era. It is extra shiny and is also called "rolled" as the fronts are usually Pinchbeck and the backs are gold-tone. See close-ups.
    Offered for auction is a vintage Pinchbeck rolled gold brooch. It features a bar shape with a damascene vertical stripe.
