Though I have had this in my collection for 40 years I have not opened the back;
nor have I worn it
I am assuming it is painted on celluloid or ivory look alike
The image is a religious figure, perhaps Mary, Mother of Jesus
The pin stem may be shorter than it should be but,
It still works
