    Description

    What is coconut sugar?
    Organic coconut sugar is an unprocessed, natural sugar with a sweet taste and a mild caramel taste, derived from the nectar of the coconut palm flower. When the nectar is dehydrated, the water evaporates, leaving the sugar in the coconut nectar, known as coconut sugar. Coconut sugar is made up of ¾ sucrose, the rest being glucose and fructose. It’s 100% natural, pure, healthy and tastes truly delicious.
    How is coconut sugar different from regular sugar?
    Coconut sugar differs from regular sugar in colour, taste and texture. Coconut sugar is fine-grained and caramel brown in colour, slightly resembling brown sugar. In addition, coconut sugar is unrefined and a good source of vitamins and minerals, being rich in potassium, iron, magnesium and zinc. Coconut sugar also contains group B vitamins, vitamin C and enzymes. There are two types of coconut sugar – light and dark. This product is light coconut sugar. Light coconut sugar is produced using lower heat and therefore the sugar does not taste as caramelly or dark in colour. Light coconut sugar is sweeter than dark coconut sugar and therefore one of the advantages is that it does not need to be added as much. It also does not give the food as dark a colour as dark coconut sugar.
    Low Glycemic Index (GI)
    Compared to traditional white sugar, coconut sugar has a significantly lower glycaemic index (GI), which means that it does not cause a sudden spike in blood sugar and insulin levels, as can happen with regular refined sugar. This is why coconut sugar is also considered a suitable sweetener for people with blood sugar imbalances, weight watchers and health-conscious sweet lovers. Coconut sugar has a glycaemic index (GI) of 35, while cane sugar has a GI of 68.
    Coconut Sugar also contains:
    essential fatty acids;
    inulin, a beneficial fibre that helps to support intestinal function and balancing blood sugar levels;
    antioxidants.
    How to use coconut sugar?
    Coconut sugar is great to add to tea and coffee, as well as to flavour a variety of sweet dishes, to make healthy cake pops and to balance the flavours in savoury dishes. As coconut sugar is also high temperature tolerant, it can be used in a variety of baked goods such as cakes, muffins, pastries, pancakes, crêpes and tarts – just let your imagination fly!  With coconut sugar, it’s easy to add a lightly caramelised sweetness to desserts, like a cherry on the cake.
